This seems to create a file on the SD card that cannot be deleted as long as the 'USB Vaccine' is on and which corrupts the card from the camera's point of view (but not your Windows computer).Īny of you with the same problem: disable the USB vacccine and quick format the SD card in the computer followed by a camera format in the camera. My antivirus program (Panda free version) has a functionality (on by default) which "vaccinates" any USB device inserted in the computer (an SD card reader and the camera is connected to the computer via the USB bus, so both would be considered USB devices). Still it happened every time, and as mentioned, this was my third card I was about to throw in the bin. Notice that I did not initially copy the images by inserting the SD card in the computer (which other have reported could give problems), but using a cable to the camera. I was not able to access the menu and reformat the card from the camera, but my Windows desktop did not report of any problems.
Without an SD card, sound is played when pressing the shutter. Nothing displayed on the monitor and pressing the shutter did not give off the usual sound. My camera did not complain that the card should be reformatted or similar but rather did not boot properly and seemed to hang. After a couple of frustrating hours trying to understand why my third SD card in a row was unusable in my Olympus camera after downloading the images, I think I finally found the culprit.
